Low Key Watersports, inc.

Location and Dive Vessels

Our two custom 36' Newton dive vessels and brand new floating dock are located in Cruz Bay in front of Low Key.  We are located on the water just steps from the public ferry dock in Cruz Bay next to Grande Bay Resort. The retail store is in a beautiful stone building right across the street. Established on St. John in 1986, Low Key's experienced dive staff trains individuals who have never dove, as well as touring the more experienced certified divers. We offer training to divers working on their advanced, rescue and dive master, as well as instructors.

Our Retail Store:

We offer the best rental equipment on island and weekly rental rates for both snorkel gear and scuba gear. We service from 8:30 - 6:00 p.m. in the off season, and 8:30- 8:00 in season, seven days a week. We have the latest in men’s and women’s swimwear, footwear, and resort apparel. We carry brand names such as O'Neil, Speedo, La Blanca, Teva, Reef and Maui Jim as well as many custom designs in t-shirts and rash guards.

Scuba Dives and snorkeling:

Our certified dives depart daily at 8:10 a.m.. There are over thirty reefs to chose from around St. John! St. John is known for more shallow reefs. Several dive sites such as Congo and Carvel Rock off to our north offers the more discriminate diver a variety of fish and coral. Many of our sites are seasonal, diving the north in the summer, south in the winter, and west in between seasons.  Night dives are on Tuesday evenings, with a minimum of four passengers to confirm.

"Discover Scuba Courses" start daily at 12:30 in the afternoon. The only pre-requisite is the ability to swim, and your health. This course will definitely wet your appetite for diving! Your journey starts out by viewing a twenty minute video which covers the concepts of scuba, followed by a question/answer session. Board our custom Newton 36' dive vessel in Cruz Bay and head out to one of our many incredible reefs. In shallow water, get comfortable with the scuba gear, and enjoy two different underwater locations! Beautiful tropical fish, turtles, sea rays and schools of Caribbean reef fish grace our corals.

For those individuals who want to get PADI certified, we offer several options. We offer the basic PADI open water dive course in which academics are done on site and corresponding water drills performed on our outer reefs. We also offer the PADI E-Learning course where you complete your classroom at home, and all diving down here in our beautiful, warm, clear water. For those who want to excel in their certifications, the Advanced Open Water Course will help you enhance your dive skills and become more comfortable in the water with five dives total. Two core dives and three elective dives such as fish i.d., boat dive, night and peak performance are just a few of the electives to choose from. For a more challenging as well as rewarding course, the PADI Rescue Course teaches you how to deal with minor and major dive emergencies using a variety of techniques. After you complete these courses, you are eligible to enroll in our PADI Dive Master course which teaches you how to lead others as you supervise scuba diving activities and assist with diver training.  When coming down here on a family vacation, don't forget to bring snorkelers for a nominal fee! Most snorkelers are added to our afternoon dive vs. morning as our afternoons are shallow. All dive trips as well as snorkel trips require advance reservations which may be made through our website.

Other Cool Watersport activities:

Our sister company, Ocean Runner Powerboat Rentals offers daily USVI and BVI luxury boating tours on our 28' and 35' Contenders, 44' Sea Ray or 60' Predator.

If you are looking for a little bit of independence, book one of our 15' Boston Whalers, maximum five people, for an excursion of our North Shore and National Park Beaches. Our Boston whalers have a center console, and a Bimini for extra protection against our Caribbean sun!

We can also assist you in making reservations on a Champagne sunset sail or Jost Van Dyke white bay and soggy excursion as well as a trip to the world famous "Baths" located in Virgin Gorda.

Whatever your watersports needs are, we have the tour, the equipment and the resort wear to make your vacation one of the best!

Low Key Snorkeling

When the snorkel trip that we booked did not fill up and our charter was canceled, Low Key offered to let us snorkel off of their afternoon dive boat instead. The crew was fantastic and we had a great time! The other guests on the boat were participating in the Discover Scuba course and it sounded like something we may try on our next trip.
